Mat Pilates Mount Duneed

What is Mat Pilates?

Clinical Pilates, also known as Exercise Pilates or mat Pilates, is conducted by a practitioner and targets enhancing body function, flexibility, muscular strength, balance, and endurance. This method involves precise and repetitive movements with an emphasis on control and stability, aiding in reducing and preventing pain from injuries, accidents, and overuse.

Our practitioners aim to grasp your personal goals, enhance your confidence, and improve your physical capabilities. The exercises are tailored to your level, and personalised support and technique correction are offered during the class.

Our passion for exercise is matched by our understanding of the health benefits gained from regular activities such as Mat Pilates.

The idea of trying something new, joining a class, or starting a new exercise program may seem difficult. Pilates is the perfect stepping stone to more intense exercise, an excellent way to supplement a heavy training schedule, and a fantastic way to get moving if you haven’t exercised in a while.

No matter your fitness level, age, body shape, or health goal, our Clinical Pilates Instructors are here to guide you every step of the way.

  • Determining the need for an assessment

We strongly advise having a physiotherapy or osteopathy assessment before joining our classes for the first time, even if you have previously participated in Pilates groups.

Exercise Pilates, led by a practitioner, differs from public and gym-based group sessions. Clinical Pilates emphasises optimal movement, breathing, and control as you progress through a series of exercises. As with any exercise, your body will be challenged, and it is crucial to maintain control and strength to prevent new strains and injuries.

An individual assessment by a physiotherapist or osteopath can examine your core stability, exercise form, and movement control to optimise your performance in each group class.

We may also develop a complimentary exercise program to better prepare you for classes. If you have a particular injury you are managing, seeing a physiotherapist prior to joining the group can ensure we find the right exercise for you and allows us to better support you in the class environment. However, you can commence classes without assessment by completing a medical waiver.

If you are not sure, feel free to contact a member of our friendly team to find out more.
