What is Mat Pilates?

Exercise Pilates, also known as Clinical Pilates, is ran by a practitioner and aims to improve our bodies function, flexibility, muscular strength, balance and endurance. Pilates uses selective and repetitive body movements with particular focus on control and stability and can reduce and prevent pain caused by injury, accident and overuse.

Our practitioners strive to understand your individual goals, build your confidence and ultimately improve your physical abilities. Exercises are adapted to suit your level with personalised support and technique correction provided throughout the class.

  • When is an assessment appropriate?

    It is highly recommended you have a physiotherapy or osteopathy Assessment prior to joining our classes for the first time, even if you have experience in pilates groups in the past.

    Practitioner led exercise pilates can differ to public and gym based group sessions. Clinical pilates focuses on optimal movement, breathing and control while moving through a sequence of exercises. Like any exercise your body will be challenged and it is important to have sufficient control and strength to avoid new strains and injuries.

    An individual physiotherapy or osteopathy assessment can check your core stability, exercise form and movement control to get the best out of each group class.

    We may also develop a complimentary exercise program to better prepare you for classes. If you have a particular injury you are managing, seeing a physiotherapist prior to joining the group can ensure we find the right exercise for you and allows us to better support you in the class environment. However you can commence classes without assessment by completing a medical waiver.

  • Low Impact Mat Pilates

    with Ella Meehan

    Simple mat based exercises suitable for all age groups. Focusing on a mixture of core activation and strength, upper and lower limb strength and balance. This class will help you to master the foundations of good technique and build strength. We recommend this class if you have any injuries such as lower back and hip pain.

    For all participants with an injury concern we strongly advise an assessment and consultation with our physiotherapist prior to commencing the class.

  • High Impact Mat Pilates

    with Ella Meehan

    Builds on complexity of exercises completed in the low impact class. Focusing on a mixture of strengthening for the abdominals, core, glutes, upper and lower limbs. Some exercises may also include optional basic equipment for an extra challenge. Suitable for all fitness levels however, if you have any injury concerns we recommend starting with the low impact mat pilates class.

    For all participants with an injury concern we strongly advise an assessment and consultation with our physiotherapist prior to commencing the class.

  • Mum’s and Bub’s Mat Pilates

    with Aileen Richards

    Specifically designed for women during and after pregnancy to maintain strength and transition back into exercise after pregnancy. It targets pelvic floor and core activation, as well as strength of the abdominal and hip muscles to support activity.

    For all participants with an injury concern we strongly advise an assessment and consultation with our physiotherapist prior to commencing the class.

  • Men’s Mat Pilates

    with Briony Barry

  • Things to remember for class..

    Bookings compulsory, no walk ins!!
    No cash. Please, pay at the reception desk before or after class.
    BYO own pilates mat and towel, unfortunately we aren’t able to use ones we have supplied in the past.
    Max 10 people in each class, so get in quick to be sure you don’t miss out!
