Studio Pilates

Our signature class is Reformer Pilates with a little more!

These classes are suitable for all ages and abilities – Our expert instructors will guide you through the class and give you as much assistance as you require. If you are completely new to Pilates we do highly recommend having 2-3 individual 1:1 sessions with one of our practitioners so you master the fundamentals before joining in with a group but this is not compulsory.

Studio Pilates is a low impact, athletic class incorporating elements of cardio, strength training and mobility. Expect the heart rate to rise, muscles to burn, and have lots of fun! We like to mix these classes up a bit to keep challenging the body – no two sessions are the same and some classes might focus a bit more on legs, upper body, core, or mobility. These 50 minute Studio Reformer Pilates classes with a maximum of 4 people include a stretch cool down at the end.

Clinical Pilates

Clinical Pilates classes are supervised by our expert practitioners helping you work through your personalised Pilates program safely and at your own pace. These classes are perfect for people looking to get all of the benefits from reformer pilates but with a bit more of a focus on rehabilitation for a specific injury.

These classes are especially appropriate and beneficial for a range of presentations including Pregnant Women, Seniors and those with neurological or musculoskeletal conditions to rehabilitate, restore movement, and keep active in a safe environment. 1:1 and 2:1 Pilates

Completely new to Pilates and want to masters the basics ?? Or just simply want the practitioner all to yourself –  Maybe you want to come in with your wife or husband, sister or brother?? That’s perfect, one of our practitioners will be on hand to personally guide you through 50 minutes of pilates magic!

The great news is if you book this class type with one of our Physiotherapists or Osteopaths and you have eligible private health insurance some, or all, of the cost is covered by your fund!

Have you tried Reformer Pilates?

Pilates is an incredible form of full-body exercise focusing on functional strength and flexibility. It has been practiced worldwide since its inception in the 1920’s by Joseph Pilates. The new and light-filled clinic at 13th Beach Health Services now allows us to offer both Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates classes. Both forms of pilates aims to train the body as an integrated whole, improving flexibility, strength, core control and body awareness in a balanced fashion.

A Reformer Pilates machine is a comfortable bed-like frame with a flat platform that smoothly glides back and forth with the assistance and/or resistance created by springs. These springs provide differing levels of resistance making this machine adjustable and suitable for all. The versatility of a Reformer Pilates machine is second-to-none allowing you to complete exercises in a variety of positions from lying down, sitting to standing.

Traditional Pilates exercises remain similar across both Mat and Reformer Pilates, however the Reformer machine itself offers a unique and varied exercise environment in the way that you are pushing with or against resistance, demanding a greater strength component. Regardless of this, the key focus remains as a low impact form of exercise with great attention on the mind, breath and core control.

If you have an interest in both styles of Pilates why not trial both and reap the endless benefits of each? Despite being performed in separate classes, Mat and Reformer Pilates will compliment each other and leave you feeling stronger, balanced and refreshed.

A class for every level

At 13th Beach Health Services Reformer Pilates in Barwon Heads, there’s a class to suit everybody. You have 2 types of group classes to choose from and also 1:1 if you want more personalised attention. This means that the choice of how you practice Pilates is entirely up to you.

Choose from our group classes which are either Clinical Pilates or Studio Pilates and have a maximum of 4 people. For those wanting the practitioner to themselves, our 1:1 or 2:1 personalised Reformer Pilates classes are ideal for partners, friends, siblings, etc.

These options allow you to choose how much you’d like to challenge yourself and what you specifically want to achieve out of Pilates. The best thing is each option gives you a chance to grow at your own pace and be guided by our supportive instructors through every step.

When is an assessment appropriate?

Our Pilates team are not only Pilates instructors who genuinely care but also qualified Osteopaths and Physiotherapists who combine their professional skills with Pilates to help you achieve your ideal health outcome. 

It is highly recommended you have a Physiotherapy or Osteopathy Assessment prior to joining our classes for the first time, even if you have experience in Pilates in the past.

Practitioner led exercise Pilates can differ to public and gym based group sessions. Clinical Pilates focuses on optimal movement, breathing and control while moving through a sequence of exercises. Like any exercise your body will be challenged and it is important to have sufficient control and strength to avoid new strains and injuries.

An individual Physiotherapy or Osteopathy assessment can check your core stability, exercise form and movement control to get the best out of each group class.

We may also develop a complimentary exercise program to better prepare you for classes. If you have a particular injury you are managing, seeing a Physiotherapist prior to joining the group can ensure we find the right exercise for you and allows us to better support you in the class environment. However, you can book in now to your first class without an assessment.
