Is it time for new runners? New Runners 2020
Are your runners worn on one side? Do they have holes?
Wearing the correct footwear is important allowing us to go the distance as we increase (or start) our training. Now is a perfect time to invest in an updated pair of running shoes to keep you fresh, active, get the most from your training and to tick the fun run events off your goal list!
Choosing the correct pair of shoes for your foot type can be a difficult task. Navigating your way across the colourful shoe wall and the various brands and styles can be a daunting and challenging task. To achieve the most out of your run and your activity, we recommend getting your shoes fitted by an expert running footwear store or guided by a healthcare practitioner who has a keen eye for running and footwear mechanics such as Catherine, our experienced Podiatrist.
The three most important things to remember when selecting your running shoes:
1. The way the shoe fitsÂ
2. How the shoe  function on your foot – can your foot move
3. How the shoe feels!
Fit
The shoe should be wide and deep enough so that there are no areas of friction on the tops of your toes or on the outer bony prominences of your feet. Getting your foot measured each time you purchase a new pair of shoes is always a good idea to reduce the possibility of you developing any hot spots, irritation or even pins and needles when the foot loses feeling.
Function
The shoe should work with your foot, reflecting the way it naturally wants to move. Most speciality running footwear companies use running analysis technology to allow you to receive real time feedback about the support the shoe is providing and allowing a shoe to be fitted to your foot’s ideal motion.
Feel
The comfort of the shoe is key and an investment in a comfortable and enjoyable run. Always select the shoe that feels most natural; pick the shoe that feels like you aren’t wearing a shoe at all.
There are a number of factors to consider when you are updating your runners. Please call our friendly team at 13th Beach Health Services to make an appointment with Catherine.
