Myotherapy Vs. Other Therapies
What is “Myotherapy” and what does a Myotherapist do?
Myotherapy is a manual therapy involved with the treatment or prevention of pain and restriction of movement related to muscle or myofascial dysfunction. However, a Myotherapist also works with other areas of pain and dysfunction such as that relating to joints, connective tissue and the nervous system. Myotherapy uses a holistic, integrated, evidence-based approach in order to prevent, correct or rehabilitate the area/s concerned. One or a combination of treatment techniques may be applied, such as myofascial release, dry needling, joint mobilization and trigger point therapy. Along with treatments, a Myotherapist may also provide practical advice and education to enhance in their patient’s recovery and management at home. This can include an exercise prescription, pain management and activity/lifestyle modifications. All of the techniques are implemented with long term solutions in mind.
Common ground with other therapies.
As with Osteopathy and Physiotherapy, Myotherapy may also utilize massage in their treatments. However, unlike Osteopathy and Physiotherapy, Myotherapy encompasses remedial massage. Each therapy aims to relieve pain and improve function, but they all have a different approach, employing different methods for diagnosis and treatment.
What can a Myotherapist treat?
